Life after cable downgrade and other bills
Early last month I spent a great deal of time trying to find out how I can cut down our monthly expenses. The only things which seemed possible to cut on are cable and cellphone. Reducing the electric bill was just a matter of conserving energy even though our bill has not been that big. We do not pay for gas over the summer but we use it for heating so I will be trying to make sure most places where heat can be wasted are insulated before winter kicks in.
Back to cable , I find it hard to cut the cable cord completely even though we have Netflix and sometimes rent movies from Red box and Amazon. So I just downgraded the cable and now we have fewer channels. Sometimes as I am scrolling through the channels, I find like there is nothing important to watch since we do not have many choices now. In some way, I feel like the TV can enslave one because I grew up watching only one channel which opened at midday and closed at midnight. Now when I have many choices, I cannot find anything good to watch. However, even though sometimes we are missing some shows we used to enjoy, we know the big mission is to get rid of the debt and that is where our focus is.We do not even have NBC Sports which airs the English premier League Soccer but I get to watch free live stream of the games on NBC Extra online.
I also downgraded the data package on my cellphone which had been bumped up without my knowledge and I even got credited back. On top of reducing our cable bill, we also got credited some money and this month we paid only half of the total cost. It always feels so nice to reap the benefits. I also made extra payments to my debts thanks to the 3 paycheck month of August . I will update you about the debt next week.
Probably some of you heard news about the terrorist attack at West gate Mall in Kenya over the weekend where they killed dozens and injured hundreds and held other hostages. I had been following the issue all weekend long and early this week and I am glad it is over. The good news is none of my family, relatives, friends or anyone I know was a victim but I have friends who lost loved ones and as Kenyans we are still mourning together, praying and supporting the ones who lost their loved ones.
